Using UMaineRents:
UMaineRents provides its users with a marketplace for rental apartments and houses in the greater Orono / Old Town area. All apartments or houses are updated daily and can be viewed with detailed descriptions and photographs at UMaineRents. To get a feel for UMaineRents, perform a search and take a look at all the properties entered in our system. If there are apartments or houses that interest you, complete the registration form and follow the page links until you find your rental property.
Benefits to Students without Registering:
Students who are not registered may search all current listings and view listed results. Until registered, students are not permitted to view the details of a listing or use the MyList feature.
Benefits of Registration for Students:
Students who are registered with UMaineRents with a valid e-mail ending in '@umit.maine.edu' get all the benefits of UMaineRents. With registration you get to search all listings and view detailed information for a property. In addition, registered students can add properties to their MyList page. The MyList page acts like a shopping cart, allowing you to add and remove properties you are interested in. This makes it easy to make a list of your favorite properties and have it right at your fingertips. Registration and all benefits of UMaineRents are FREE to all students.
Benefits of Registering for Landlords:
UMaineRents provides property owners and managers a FREE resource to post their properties themselves. Once posted, the property will be available for viewing to the UMaine community. Listings are supported by detailed descriptions and photographs (if desired). If you have multiple apartments or houses to rent, you can list them all with us. Once you are a registered user, the web site will recognize your contact information and you will be able to instantly add your properties to the database without filling out the same information over and over again. In addition, landlords are able to specify the "Lease Length" for each property listing. Since potential tenants will only contact landlords of properties with dates that coincide with their desired lease term, dates are an important factor in leasing your property. Once your apartment or house has been rented, please return to the site to deactivate your listing. This will keep the listing in the database but remove it from the list of searchable properties. If you do not plan to ever rent a property again you can delete the property from the database at your My Center page.
Having trouble using the web interface?
For those landlords unfamiliar with use of the web, gather the information about the apartment or room you desire to rent and drop by the Reference Desk at Fogler Library on the University of Maine campus. Have the attendant on duty help you establish an e-mail address at http://gmail.google.com, http://www.yahoo.com or an alternative, find the web page at http://www.umaine.edu/UMaineRents/, sign up as a landlord, and have them get you started entering information.
