UMaineRents was developed as a Capstone project by seniors in the University of Maine's Information Systems Engineering program. The purpose of the project was to conceptualize, design, and implement a database-driven user interface for a client of our choosing. After discussing several ideas, the team decided on a rental property web portal for the UMaine community. The clients for the project were initially the officers and members of the University of Maine Off Campus Board. However, the Commuter and Non-Traditional Student Programs in the Division of Student Affairs will manage users of UMaineRents over time.
Searching the Site
UMaineRents.com offers free searching of local rental properties to all UMaine students. Any online user can search and view the returned information on all properties in our database. However, to see the Detailed View of a particular listing, including pictures, landlord contact-information, location, and more, the user must be registered. Currently we are only allowing students of the University of Maine with a valid "umit.maine.edu" e-mail address to register.
Landlords
Want to increase visibility of your properties? List them with us!
UMaineRents.com offers free listing of rental properties for Landlord's big and small in the greater-Orono area. Once registered, a Landlord can add, remove, activate, deactivate, or edit properties on our MyCenter page. To ensure the best quality of our site, all Landlords must register and be approved before listing any properties.
A student who wants to sublet an apartment, if allowed by the current contract with the landlord, may sign up as a landlord in order to list the apartment as a sublet.
Project Goals
-
Provide UMaine students with an effective web-capability for finding rental properties in the greater Orono / Old-Town area.
-
Restrict access to detailed search results to only UMaine students.
-
Provide landlords with a user-friendly service whereby they can conveniently enter information about available rental properties and readily alter and maintain listings over time.
